Work on the Former Restaurantosaurus Restaurant at Animal Kingdom Continues
The transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. at Walt Disney World Resort is well underway, with the former Restaurantosaurus restaurant being a key part of the redevelopment. Last week, we reported on the initial construction activities around the site, and now, the area is being reimagined as Tropical Americas, a new and exciting addition to the park.
Construction Updates
The construction wall near Restaurantosaurus reveals a busy scene. Excavators, rocks, and disturbed earth indicate active work. Stacks of wood and concrete blocks suggest ongoing installation and movement. The dust floating above the wall confirms the intense activity of the construction crew.
The Restaurantosaurus building remains largely unchanged from last week, with props like roof chairs and aluminum cans still in place. However, more construction materials and equipment have been brought in, and a large hole has appeared in the dirt in front of the building. Two excavators are now parked in the area, adding to the construction activity.
Walls have been erected in front of the former Dinosaur Treasures gift shop, and through the wall, we can see construction crew members, equipment, and vehicles. The exterior of the former gift shop appears untouched since our last report, suggesting that work is focused on the interior and surrounding areas.
The Encanto attraction building, which will be a part of the new Tropical Americas, looks similar to how it was last week. This indicates that the exterior work is not yet complete, and the focus is on the interior and surrounding areas.
DinoLand U.S.A. Farewell
DinoLand U.S.A. is undergoing a phased closure from January 2025 to February 2026. Our previous articles provide a final glimpse into each area of the original land: DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, Donald’s Dino-Bash, Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and The Boneyard. These articles offer a detailed look at the rides, attractions, and experiences that are being replaced.
For those interested in the complete history of DINOSAUR, a.k.a. Countdown to Extinction, a comprehensive article is available for reference.
Tropical Americas Unveiled
Tropical Americas will introduce Pueblo Esperanza, a fictional village. The concept art showcases the expansive hacienda as the former Restaurantosaurus, the Indiana Jones attraction replacing DINOSAUR in the upper right, the carousel in the lower center, and Casita, the facade of Encantoride, with the reimagined Dinosaur Treasures nearby.
Further details about the Indiana Jones ride and Encantoride are available in dedicated articles. These attractions promise to bring a new level of excitement and adventure to the park.
Emotional Response
The redevelopment of DinoLand U.S.A. has sparked mixed emotions among Disney fans. Some are sad to see the original attractions go, while others are excited about the new Tropical Americas. The transformation of a beloved area of the park is a significant change, and it's understandable that fans have varying reactions. The question remains: Will the new additions live up to the expectations of long-time Disney visitors?
